Philosophy of care
Assisted living provides accommodation, hospitality and personal care services in a manner that:
Promotes and maximizes choice, dignity, and control for Residents;
Promotes the Residents’ right to privacy as well as opportunities for social interaction;
Supports Residents’ independence through physical design features in the building and the delivery of support services;
Provides care and services that are shaped to meet the Residents’ needs; and
Creates a home-like environment that supports the Residents’ preferred lifestyle”
Type of accommodation
There are 36 designated assisted living suites. These include 9 1-bedroom suites (apprx 504 sq. ft) and 27 bachelor suites (apprx 360 sq. ft). The building also has an additional 28 Independent suites and 112 complex care rooms. Flooring in suites is wood-like linoleum (no carpets).
All suites are equipped with fridge and stove. Tenants provide their own furniture. Suites have walk-in shower with surround bars, swing safety bar for toilet (no bathtubs).
Individual tenants pay 70% of after tax income

Table service is provided in our main dining room at lunch and supper. There is always an alternate available as well as a salad bar. Special diets will be arranged through our registered Dietician.
Housekeeping and laundry
Your rent includes weekly laundering of your linens and towels, as well as weekly housekeeping of your suite. Coin operated machines located on 3 floors (6,7,8) are available for tenant’s personal use.
Special recreation opportunities
|Assisted living tenants are welcome to attend all of the planned Leisure Services programs in the building which include: regular exercises in the morning, bus trips, evening and daytime entertainment, cyberschool, arts class, gardening, cooking etc. (Monthly schedules of events are posted around the building). |
Emergency response (24) capacity
|Lifeline 24 hour emergency system is included in the monthly tenant contribution.|
Tenants must be able to move around their suite on their own and make their own way to the main dining area, with or without aides. The outside entrance has a ramp as well as stairs.
Motorized scooter policy
|Scooters are not permitted in the dining room area.|
|Small pets are considered for approval at the time of interview. If the pet is approved, the pet’s care is the total responsibility of the tenant. Haro Park Centre retains the right to request the removal of a pet for reasons of risk, safety or health issues for the tenant or others.|
|Smoking is not permitted in the suites. Tenants may smoke in designated areas of the building only. |
|Smoke detectors are located in all suites, elevators and common areas, as well the building is equipped with a sprinkler system (in each suite as well as the entire building), each suite has a strobe light for the hearing impaired. Visitors must buzz the tenant they are visiting to enter the building. There is a security code for exiting. Main entrance to Bute Street is secured at all times. The Vancouver Community Police have an office in our building. |

There are limited monthly rental spaces available to tenants in our underground garage. Cost is $12.50 per month. Parking for visitors is available but limited.
|Haro Park Centre is centrally located in the heart of the West End Community and is within walking distance to Robson Street and a central bus line. The West End Community Centre and Seniors Network is located close by on Denman Street. |
|Facility-specific restrictions||Showers in suites are not wheelchair accessible, tenant must be able to transfer on their own or with minor assist from wheelchair to shower chair. Scooters are not permitted in the main dining room area. (note: there is a substantial incline from Robson Street to the entrance). |
|Exit criteria |
In the event tenants’ care requirements exceed the requirements for Assisted Living, or the tenant is unable to continue to direct their own needs and require 24 hour professional care, the VCH case manager will review and support the tenant to find appropriate placement in the community which could include the Haro Park Centre Complex Care facility.
Tours of the building common areas only are available to those that have been pre-authorized by a case manager. Tours of the suites are not available unless there is a vacant suite to view. A CD of the suites is available for viewing on site at the time of your tour.
