<div class="ExternalClass3DC8ABE696404C3EBBD44625FB6D516E"><p>We help people with metabolic disorders achieve optimum control of their disorder and maximize their quality of life through effective assessment, treatment, monitoring, support and education.</p><div><p>We are committed to helping adults diagnosed with, or suspected of, having genetic disorders that affect their metabolism including:</p><ul><li>Galactosemia</li><li>Glycogen storage disorders</li><li>Metabolic myopathies: e.g. McArdle's  disease, CPT 2 and others</li><li>Homocystinuria</li><li>Mitochondrial disease</li><li>Phenylketonuria (PKU)</li><li>Urea cycle defects: e.g. OTC deficiency, citrullinemia and others</li><li>Fatty acid oxidation disorders: e,g, CPT 1 and 2, MCAD, LCHAD, VLCAD and others</li><li>Lysosomal Disease: e.g.  Fabry and Gaucher disease, Niemann Pick B and C, Pompe disease and others</li><li>Leukodystrophies: e.g. adrenoleukodystrophy, metachromatic leukodystrophy, and others</li><li>Organic acidurias: e.g. propionic acidemia, methylmalonic acidemia, maple syrup urine disease, and others</li><li>Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)</li><li>Neurotransmitter diseases</li><li>Other inborn errors of metabolism</li></ul><h2>Our services may include:</h2><ul><li>Nutrition and supportive counselling</li><li>Coordination of community resources</li><li>Group and Individual education</li><li>Medical monitoring and assessment</li><li>Consultation with other health care facilities around the province</li><li>Patient advocacy</li><li>Diagnostic testing</li></ul><h2>The Metabolic Clinic team</h2><p>Our team includes physicians, registered nurses, a social worker, registered dietitans, a psychologist and secretary.</p></div><div><h2>How to prepare for your first clinic visit</h2><p>You will be sent questionnaires before your appointment so that we can learn more about your medical history. We may also ask you to complete some lab tests.</p></div><p>Please complete any forms or tests before your visit so that we can make the most of out time together.</p><div><h2>How long is the first appointment? </h2><p>The Initial visit is two hours long.  Follow up visits can last anywhere from 1-2 hours.  Follow up visits are arranged as needed.</p></div><div><h2>Is there a cost? </h2><p>There is no cost for the clinic appointment.</p><h2>What to bring to the visit</h2><p>Bring a list of current medications including dosage (or the medications themselves). A friend or family member is also welcome to accompany you.</p><h2>Will I be referred to a dietitian?</h2><p>Some metabolic disorders can be the underlying cause of nutritional complications, for example inability to gain weight.
