George Pearson Centre is a residential facility in South Vancouver. Among many outstanding aspects of this Centre is the Technology Independence Centre. George Pearson Centre provides specialized care for adults with severe disabilities, including brain injury, ventilator dependent residents, and respite care. Many community based activities are focused in and around the Pearson Site.
The Technology Independence Centre (TIC) provides residents of George Pearson Centre a chance to learn new skills through the use of a variety of software and computer technology and adaptive equipment.
TIC maintains several computer 'work-stations' where interested individuals may participate in a number of activities, including:
learning word processing in order to carry out personal correspondence and creative writing pursuits
playing a variety of computer based games, such as Solitaire, Mah Jongg, etc.
using the internet to conduct research, utilize e-mail, watch videos
A variety of adaptive technology is available to facilitate the use of the computers. Due to the specialized nature of its services, TIC is also a resource to the community with regard to providing information about the use of technical aids for individuals with special needs.
The TIC provides you with the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills with ongoing support. Each TIC computer has special adaptations that allow easy access for all disabilities. You can access the internet from TIC.
This facility provides 24- hour nursing care.
Visiting hours are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
T.I.C. office hours are from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
