Early Childhood Vision Screening - Gibsons Health Unit

Our public health staff screen for vision problems in young children. Children are screened in kindergarten at their school.

What happens during vision screening?

The child's vision in each eye will be measured by a hand held vision screener that the child looks at. Depth perception is checked using a matching game that the child plays with the screener wearing special glasses. After screening, children who require follow-up are encouraged to visit an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Children do not need to be able to read to be screened.

Also known as the VCH Sensory Screening Program, Sunshine Coast.
