Nuclear Medicine - Richmond Hospital

Nuclear Medicine is a specialty of medicine that uses radioactive materials to diagnose and treat diseases.  An examination involves the administration of a radioactive material via intravenous injection, inhalation or ingestion. Depending on the body organ being tested, imaging occurs immediately or up to several days post administration of the radiopharmaceutical. 

Is it safe?

There are rarely any side effects. Except in very unusual circumstances, patients are able to drive home on their own.
