We provide a tertiary service composed of Sexual Health Clinicians (Registered Nurses) and a Sexual Medicine Doctor, who have been specifically trained in the field of sexual health, disability and rehabilitation.
We see clients with neurological impairments (a group of disorders that affect the central nervous system including the brain and spinal cord) who are:
in-patients (currently admitted to GF Strong for rehabilitation services)
out-patients (currently receiving rehabilitation and/or specialized services at GF Strong)
To facilitate the sexual health rehabilitation of clients and their families through education, emotional support, and medical care
To provide education to health care providers, students and health care consumers
To lead in advanced research initiatives that will develop the specialized body of knowledge in sexuality and disability
The program recognizes sexual health to be a private and sensitive subject and the team is respectful of individual and family values and beliefs while maintaining confidentiality around shared information. The interventions are based on nonjudgmental approach and are geared towards the readiness of the person/family and the identified sexual health goals.
