Karin Olson

Vice President, Coastal

In her role as Vice President for the VCH Coastal region, Karin is responsible for the delivery of acute, residential and community care services in North and West Vancouver, the Sea To Sky and Sunshine Coast communities, as well as Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola. 

A registered nurse with over 35 years of broad health care experience and clinical leadership, Karin returned to VCH in September 2016 after three years as VP of Clinical Programs and Chief Nursing Executive at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. Prior to that, she was the executive director of the Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) project for VCH as well as the former director of acute care services for Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.

She has a proven record of results-oriented leadership, achievements in improving patient care and business outcomes through strategic thinking, multi-stakeholder collaboration and relationship building, Along with her hands-on nursing experience, Karin holds an Executive MBA from the Sauder School of Business along with a Master of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia. She is also trained in LEAN management, a graduate of the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council Academy, and a certified Canadian College of Health Service Executive.
