Every year in November VCH celebrates Nurse Practitioner (NP) Week - an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge all our NPs across a variety of community and acute care settings at VCH. This year, VCH hosted two NP Open House Events in Vancouver and North Vancouver. Along with celebrating this exciting healthcare profession, the events provided an opportunity for NP students and aspiring NP students to connect with Clinical Education, Professional Practice and Recruitment teams to learn more about the role of the NP and the diverse areas of practice available at VCH.
Since 2005, NPs have been a part of VCH, bringing their knowledge and values of nursing together with medicine. Initially, there were only five NPs at VCH, and now the department has grown to over 100 NPs working in over 100 positions across the organization!
“The Nurse practitioner role is expanding across VCH community, acute and tertiary care sites and in urban and rural locations. It's an exciting time to be an NP or be embarking on this profession! Both the NP professional practice leadership team and the Department of NPs look forward to supporting more NPs and communities of care as these positions and models of care grow," says Michelle Sims, Nurse Practitioner Practice Initiatives Lead.
The NP Week celebrations were an opportunity to connect with colleagues and recognize the growing number of NPs across VCH. Thank you to all our NPs for being leaders and autonomous practitioners who work collaboratively to provide the highest quality of care!
