Congratulations to Dr. Vinay Dhingra!
The Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) physician was recently honoured with a Champion of Change Award for his leadership in quality improvement. Selected by the
Specialist Services Committee, a joint Doctors of BC and BC government committee, Dr. Dhingra was recognized for spearheading the
Physician-Led Quality Improvement Initiative.
Described as “amazing and truly inspirational" by those who work with him, Dr. Donald Griesdale says his award-winning colleague “mentors physicians through quality improvement training on a wide range of clinical projects here at VCH and PHC. He's also the clinical lead for critical care at the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council, where he's led several quality improvement initiatives. One of his projects has been the vast quality work he's done around pain, agitation and delirium identification and management for critically ill patients."
And, as if that weren't enough, Dr. Dhingra is also the critical care clinical lead for Clinical Systems & Transformation (CST) at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and Providence Health Care (PHC).
“Vinay's quality improvement and leadership has led to dramatically improved care for critically ill patients here at VCH and throughout the province," says Dr. Griesdale. “He is most deserving of this honour."
“I feel blessed by the opportunities I've had to improve outcomes for patients and families," says Dr. Dhingra. “I encourage all physicians to take advantage of the opportunities before them. If you have an idea to enhance care, give it a shot. If an opportunity arises — say yes!"
