Beyond Stigma: on September 10 we had the conversation about suicide prevention

9/26/2018

Conversations about mental health, courage and hope

On Monday evening September 10th, close to 200 people participated in person and via livestream to raise awareness about suicide prevention and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness as part of the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Beyond Stigma mental health series.

Supported by the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and UBC Hospital Foundation, panelists with lived experience and clinicians from Mental Health and Substance Use Services spoke about the challenges of surviving suicide loss and supporting loved ones who are struggling with mental health concerns. Representatives from VCH mental health services and community partners were on hand to provide information about mental health resources and several participants remarked they felt more hopeful about their own mental health challenges on hearing panelists speak so openly about their journey to recovery.

Planning will soon be underway for our next event and for those who missed the event, the livestream can be accessed at:
