Celebrating the ‘little thrift shop that could’

10/16/2015
Due to the city’s red-hot real estate market and rising rents on Broadway, Vancouver General Hospital’s Thrift Shop had to relocate. The non-profit is now celebrating with a grand opening celebration at its new location in Vancouver’s East Village (Hastings-Sunrise). Come for the bargains – everything will be 50% off!

Free parking

Our new store on E. Hastings Street is favourably situated in the East Village, one of Vancouver’s hottest up-and-coming neighbourhoods. The area is friendly and offers plenty of free parking in a large, well maintained lot directly behind the store.

About the store

The VGH Thrift Shop has been in operation since 2004 and is operated by the VGH Thrift Shop Society, a non-profit organization that initially began as an emergency clothing fund for patients being discharged from hospital. One-hundred percent of net profits go to the Vancouver region in Vancouver Coastal Health, and the store relies on donations and the manpower of volunteers ranging in age from 15 to 75 years old. Since 2010, the Thrift Shop has donated more than $125,000 to VGH and UBC Hospitals, with the money benefiting patients, mental health clients and residents in residential care facilities.
