CFO Portfolio raises money for KidSport in World Cup pool

L to R: Fion Lai, Regional Business Systems; Angeline Leung, Regional Business Systems; Jat Sandhu, Data Analytics and Decision Support; Glen Copping, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Systems Development and Performance; Lambert Low, Finance.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Portfolio, led by Glen Copping and comprised of eight departments, teamed up in an exciting CFO Portfolio World Cup 2018 soccer pool to raise money for KidSport™.

Through true sportsmanship, and a dose of healthy competition, participants raised $500 towards removing financial barriers for children wanting to play organized sports in British Columbia.

To keep up the momentum from an energetic soccer-themed CFO Forum in June, staff were invited to join the pool with a donation to KidSport™. Entry forms required them to predict World Cup team rankings, total goals scored, red cards issued, Golden Boot award contenders, and perhaps most interestingly, the most outrageous incident to occur this World Cup. Soccer aficionado Dr. Jat Sandhu, Executive Director for Data Analytics and Decision Support, who launched the inaugural pool, provided weekly updates on participant standings and analyses on the World Cup soccer matches in Russia.

Winners received prizes – and bragging rights – that will last until the next World Cup, hosted by Qatar in 2022.

Angeline Leung and Fion Lai, from Regional Business Systems, ranked first and second place respectively, while Lambert Low, from Finance, came in third. Runner-up Fion Lai remarked that in addition to this being the best office pool she's ever joined, it also “generated a lot of excitement around our office…and contributed to a great cause."
