A fun, educational, and inspirational evening was held to welcome this year's newly hired Employed Student Nurses (ESNs)! The social evening was filled with guest speakers, a photo booth, refreshments, and interactive activities. ESNs had the opportunity to mingle and connect, meet managers, recruitment staff, and the clinical education team. A big VCH welcome to our new ESNs and a special congratulations to our graduating ESNs this year!
Our ESN program is designed to provide up to 350 hours of hands-on experience with pay. Our Regional Clinical Educators support ESNs through their transition from student to nurse and work with ESNs to identify a career path that works for each individual. These hours help consolidate theory and clinical skills, build on the nursing practice, and help ESNs participate as a team member.
VCH hires students from Bachelor of Nursing programs as well as Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing programs. Our program is unique and the ESN opportunities vary from small remote hospitals to large tertiary sites. This year, we hired ESNs across a variety of sites including acute and community sites!
The program is a great resource for students to enhance their clinical skills and gain experience. The experience and knowledge students gain helps prepare them for their nursing careers.
