Are you looking for a change and do not know where to start? Did you make a New Years Resolution and fell off the wagon? Let us help.
First Steps to Prevention is a free program offered by Vancouver Coastal Health for individuals who are at risk of developing chronic conditions and are ready to make healthier lifestyle changes. This is not for those who already have diabetes but rather for those who are pre-diabetic, hypertensive, have a history of gestational diabetes, want to maintain a healthy weight, are physically inactive or just want to improve their eating habits.
What: It's a fun and interactive prevention program that involves discussion around the benefits of healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, smoking cessation, and prevention of chronic disease. There will be time spent on individualized goal setting, action plans and problem solving. As well, clients will be given information on resources available in the community.
This program is led by a registered dietitian and registered nurse.
Classes are also available in Chinese and Punjabi, please call for details.
