Filming to begin at VGH

11/05/2015
Beginning May 11, the Knowledge Network will film a television documentary series at Vancouver General Hospital that will give the public a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in one of Canada’s busiest emergency departments.  The series will tell the stories of our staff and physicians on the front-lines—and of the patients who are under their care. Filming is expected to last until approximately August 7, 2015, with the final documentary airing over six episodes in 2016.
Patient safety and quality care will continue to be our first priority and will not be affected. We respect your privacy; you will not be filmed without your permission. If the crew wants to involve you, they will talk to your first and ask for your permission. Your care will not be affected whether or not you participate.
Answers to common questions can be found here, or you can contact Lark Productions directly at 604-646-4100. If you have a concern about something within the hospital, please email feedback@vch.ca

Q&A: Emergency Room – Life + Death at VGH

What if I don’t want to be filmed?

We respect your privacy; you will not be filmed without your permission. If the crew wants to involve you, they will talk to your first and ask for your permission. In the event footage is used which incidentally includes someone who has not given their written consent to be filmed or has chosen not to participate, their likeness will be rendered unidentifiable by, for example, “blurring” their face.

Will my care be affected?

No. Patient safety and quality care will continue to be our first priority and will not be affected. Your care will not be affected whether or not you participate.

What if I agree to be filmed?

If the producer approaches you about participating and you (or your next of kin) give written permission to be filmed, you may be contacted after filming concludes by a representative of Lark Productions. However, providing consent does not guarantee that you will be in the final documentary.

When can I watch the documentary series?

The six one-hour episodes will air on the Knowledge Network (channel 5) sometime in 2016.
