An event to celebrate the next stage on the new Pearson Dogwood Redevelopment Project was held on June 14th for George Pearson Centre (GPC) residents, their families, and GPC staff.
The event was themed “GPC – then, now, and future” and included a display to show how George Pearson Centre has changed from its original purpose of treating tuberculosis and polio, into a home for 114 residents with complex medical and physical conditions. The display included an homage to Ward 7, the former Polio Pavilion. Ward 7 will be one of the first areas to be demolished in the coming weeks.
At the conclusion of the event, residents were treated to a concert by Elvis-impersonator, Ben Klein. The show was very well attended with over 50 residents, many of whom were dancing and clapping to the music.
The George Pearson Redevelopment project will address high priority health care needs through the redevelopment of two older residential care homes, George Pearson Centre and Dogwood Lodge.
