Alex describes herself as a small town kind of person. Growing up in Gibsons, British Columbia, she spent a lot of time in the beautiful outdoors. After completing nursing school in Vancouver she wanted to find a place where she could work and get experience, but also a place where should could enjoy her time outside of work.
This led Alex to Powell River - full of nature and adventure, as well as the opportunity to start growing her nursing career with the support she needed as a new grad Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Alex works in Long-term Care at Willingdon Creek Village and Acute on the Medical Surgical unit at Powell River General Hospital.
“Since arriving in Powell River my co-workers feel like family, and management has been nothing but supportive, answering my questions and helping me meet my goals as a new grad nurse," says Alex. When she isn't working, she spends a lot of time outdoors and often takes her dogs on the beautiful local trails in Powell River.
Alex enjoys helping residents and patients meet their health goals and achieve the best outcomes. “Seeing how happy a patient can get over helping them achieve a small goal towards progress makes my day," shares Alex. An exciting moment during her career was when she helped transfer a patient to Comox on Vancouver Island. “It was amazing to see how we strive to get the best care for our patients, and working together with other health authorities to achieve this," says Alex.
Prior to working as an LPN, she worked as a care aide and is thankful she did because it helped her build a great foundation on patient-centered care and time management skills.
