Health effects from chemical fire may be felt up to 24 hours later

The highest risk is over from yesterday’s chemical fire at Port Metro Vancouver but you may feel effects up to 24 hours later.

What symptoms should you watch for?

Over the next 24 hours if you experience any of the following, please seek medical attention:
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Wheezing

Who is most at risk?

Those with pre-existing lung problems, i.e. asthma, should monitor their condition and seek medical attention if they experience the symptoms above.

Where can I go for medical attention?

If you are experiencing the above symptoms please seek medical attention at any of the following:
  • Walk-in clinic
  • Family doctor
  • Emergency department

Is the air quality okay?

We are monitoring air quality and readings are currently at safe levels.  Areas most affected yesterday afternoon (north of 1st Ave and west of Nanaimo St.) are safe to go outside. If the air bothers you, stay indoors, or place a wet towel over your nose and mouth when going outside.
