HIV services for Indigenous people

The contract for the medication management and drop in program for Indigenous HIV positive people living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside ends September 30 and, after a request for proposal (RFP) process, the successful proponent has been named.

The new three year contract has been awarded to the Urban Indigenous Health and Healing Cooperative (UIHHC). UIHHC is a newly formed group, partnering Indigenous Elders with primary care clinicians and allied health professionals, who have extensive experience working in the inner city, and providing HIV and primary care services to Indigenous people.

Vancouver Native Health Society held the contract previously and we thank them for their work and contributions.

HIV positive clients will continue to receive the care and supports they need. There will be no service disruption for HIV positive clients.

The primary care clinic operated by Vancouver Native Health Society, which VCH funds, is not affected by this RFP decision and those services will remain the same.

If you’re a client/patient and have concerns or questions, please contact the VCH STOP Outreach Team at (604) 838-1331.
