The new Blenz Cafe located in the HOpe Centre is preparing for its official opening next week and will be celebrating the occasion with a variety of treats for customers.
The Blenz Cafe will be serving more than a great cup of coffee, it’ll be an example of the HOpe Centre’s vision for recovery-oriented practice in action, providing meaningful employment to people recovering their mental health. The coffee shop is a social enterprise, which means its goal is larger than turning a profit, it includes a focus on fulfilling a social mission.
The result is great coffee, served by great people, some of whom will be clients of the VCH Adult Mental Health & Addiction Program. The idea for the social enterprise originally came from the North Shore Mental Health & Addictions Family Advisory Committee, which took the lead on developing the café concept. This initiative is a partnership between VCH and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
The official opening day events will occur on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 7 am – 4 pm and include:
- 7 – 9 am Coffee sampling
- 10 am – noon Hot chocolate sampling
- noon – 1:30 pm VCH staff buy one and get one free when you bring a colleague
- 1:30 – 2 pm Official cake and ribbon cutting
- 2 – 4 pm Tea sampling
