Keep that mask on the flu is hanging around longer than usual

3/29/2018

Based on the latest patient data, the flu is still here. There are still a number of flu outbreaks, and more flu-related visits to emergency departments than previous years. To protect our vulnerable patients from a fatal infection, we are asking all visitors, as well as all staff, to continue to wear a mask if they have not had the flu shot, while in any VCH facility, until further notice. Masks are available on site at nursing stations.

This applies to all hospitals, residential care homes and other health facilities.

It's not too late to get a flu shot – check out Immunize BC's map to locate a clinic near you. Be sure to call ahead to ensure the vaccine is still in stock.

The Provincial Health Officer will continue to monitor the influenza activity level to determine the official end date of the 2017/18 influenza season. We will update you here as soon as a date has been confirmed.
