Vancouver Coastal Health is increasing the number of hospice beds for terminally ill patients in Vancouver.
Vancouver will be getting as many as 18 new hospice beds in the Downtown Eastside and elsewhere in Vancouver.
The new hospice spaces will provide essential end-of-life-care to those with terminal illnesses, focusing on compassion and dignity in a peaceful environment with loved ones at their side.
Hospices provide holistic care and support to improve the quality of life for people of any age and at any stage, who are terminally ill, in the last three months of their lives. Hospices allow people to live out their last days in a comfortable home-like setting rather than in a hospital.
VCH also has 27 spaces in palliative care units in St. Paul’s and Vancouver General Hospital. In Vancouver, patients may also stay in their homes and access end of life care and support.
VCH has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for this expansion. The RFP closes June 30, 2016.
