What caused more than 560 burgers and bags of chips, drinks and handfuls of candy to vanish from the Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) campus last Thursday afternoon?

Why, the annual LGH staff BBQ that occurred last week (Sept. 20), attracting close to 500 staff, physicians and volunteers of the hospital for some food and late summer fun. This year’s Western theme was front and centre, soaking some cowboys and cowgirls in the much-loved Dunk Tank and raising more than $3,400 in donations for the LGH Medical & Surgical Centre.

“It’s an annual tradition now and our favourite way of saying thank you to all of the hard-working staff, physicians and volunteers that make LGH such a special place,” says LGH Foundation Vice-President Louise Campbell. “In the end, it’s their compassion and willingness to care for patients and residents that helps inspire our donors to support the hospital.”

Sponsored by North Van’s Davies Home Health Care, the event also rewarded staff who took a moment to take part in the Balloon Dart wall where every balloon popped had a prize inside.
