Powell River hospital shows its pride

It’s Powell River Pride this week and Powell River General Hospital is showing its support by joining Powell River city hall in flying the Pride flag.

“We’re very happy to help celebrate Powell River Pride by flying the rainbow flag,” says Mélie De Champlain, VCH Coastal director for Powell River. “It signals that the hospital and other VCH services in the community are safe, supportive spaces for everyone and that we value diversity and inclusion. It’s a great example of our value to ‘care for everyone’ in action.”

The Pride flag is an international symbol of inclusivity, diversity and unity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Two-Spirit and queer (LGBT2Q+) communities. The “+” references people who identify outside these groups and includes gender non-binary, gender queer, asexual, pansexual and gender-expansive people. It also includes allies and supporters of the LGBT2Q+ community.
