Powell River staff recognized for long service


On February 14, staff in Powell River came together to celebrate their colleagues and friends who reached service milestones in 2018.

Fifty-seven staff were recognized for five to 30 year milestones with their combined service amounting to 730 years! 

Coastal Chief Operating Officer Karin Olson was there to help celebrate the occasion with Powell River Director, Mélie DeChamplain.

“We are so fortunate to have such dedicated staff who go above and beyond in providing care and support to our patients and clients, and to one another," says Mélie. “The caring and compassion shown every day by our team fill me with pride, and I want to thank and congratulate everyone who was honoured for service milestones in 2018."​

​The three longest serving honourees were recognized for 30-year milestones:

  • Katherine Dunlop – Care Aide at Powell River General Hospital

  • Lorna Stocker – Care Aide at Willingdon Creek Village

  • Karen Ward – Registered Nurse-Outpatient Care at Powell River General Hospital

When they were hired in 1988, Bill Vander Zalm was Premier of British Columbia, CDs out-sold vinyl records for the first time and the winter Olympics were held in Calgary, Alberta.
