This was the question posed by Jennifer MacKenzie, Chief Operating Officer of Richmond Hospital and keynote speaker at the Richmond Hospital Foundation's annual Community Cares Celebration.
“Today, you can find community among people that have a shared goal or purpose. You might find your community in a physical space or even online, but together, you share an identity. You belong," she said. “This evening, we've come together to celebrate our shared purpose—to create a Community of Care here in Richmond and acknowledge the work being done to help us achieve this purpose."
Jennifer shared the journey Richmond has been on recently to achieve this vision. Using Foundry Richmond, the Community Health Access Centre, the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit, and of course, the new Acute Care Tower as examples, she added that these projects demonstrate Richmond's shift in health care delivery—wrapping care around patients by population and providing a simplified delivery model outside of the hospital. Guests were also invited to speak to project leads and executive sponsors for these key initiatives at information booths before the presentation.
“If there's one thought I'd like to leave you with today, it's that with all these projects and initiatives, we're essentially creating a new local health care system here in Richmond," Jennifer said. “From streamlining care in our community and planning for a new Acute Care Tower, to anticipating future needs of our patients and looking at how technology might play a larger role. There's a lot to look forward to."
The program concluded with four awards presented by Jennifer and Kyle Shury, Board Chair of Richmond Hospital Foundation:
