Squamish General Hospital’s outpatient lab has increased its hours of service effective July 8. The lab is now open on Mondays and offers expanded hours Tuesday through Saturday.

New lab hours:

Monday 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wednesday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“This is a case where we listened to our staff and physicians and to our clients and patients, then worked in partnership with Lower Mainland Labs to increase services so we can improve access for Sea to Sky residents,” said Karin Olson, VCH Coastal chief operating office. “It’s such a great example of our values in action – through caring and learning we are achieving better results that benefit community members.”

“In addition to better service for patients and clients, having expanded hours also allows our lab staff to process more tests and reduce turnaround times for test results,” added manager, laboratory operations Taslim Hassam. “It’s a true win-win scenario.”

The population of Squamish has grown by more than 30 per cent over the past decade. Increasing services to meet the demands of a growing community helps VCH to deliver an exceptional care experience for people along the Sea to Sky corridor.

Lower Mainland Laboratories is a service of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) that provides public laboratory services throughout BC’s Lower Mainland. Its hospital laboratories in Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, Providence Health Care and PHSA provide inpatient and outpatient laboratory services. Specialty laboratories provide province-wide reference and specialized testing.
