Temporary access changes to VGH main entrance and parkade

Construction is underway at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) to expand and enhance services and amenities for patients and visitors.

Between July 30 and August 31, concrete repair and repaving work will affect access to the VGH main entrance off of West 12th Avenue.

Affected areas:

  • Jim Pattison Pavilion (VGH main entrance)

  • Blackmore Pavilion entrance

  • West 12th Avenue parkade

For the most updated information, visit VGH Construction updates

If you are driving to VGH:

  • Please allow for extra time to find parking and/or drop off or pick up patients and visitors.

  • Access to the Blackmore and Jim Pattison Pavilions from West 12th Avenue will be available for immediate patient pick up and drop off only.

  • Patient and visitor parking on the ramp will temporarily be unavailable.

  • For your safety, please follow signage. Flaggers will be on site to assist and direct traffic.

  • Vehicle access to the West 12th Avenue parkade from the ramp will be unavailable during this time. Please access the parkade off of Laurel Street.

  • If possible, consider avoiding driving in the construction area. Pedestrian access to the hospital entrances will be maintained from the West 12th Avenue parkade and other available parking lots in the area.

If you are walking or cycling:

  • Pedestrian access to the hospital main entrance from the VGH parkade will be maintained at all times via the West 12th Avenue overpass.

Travel alternatives:

  • Access for HandyDART and SN Transport patient pick up and drop off will be maintained.

  • The Inter-Hospital Shuttle will continue to pick up and drop off adjacent to the Blackmore Pavilion entrance.

  • Parking is limited on the hospital campus. We encourage visitors and patients to use transit or have someone you know pick you up and drop you off when possible. Visit to plan your route.

Construction noise

Concrete repair (including jackhammering and saw-cutting) will occur Monday to Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Occasional Saturday work may be required. We understand that this will create noise and we appreciate your continued patience.

If you have questions or concerns about construction on the VGH campus, please email

We apologize for any inconvenience and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we upgrade the VGH campus to serve our patients and community better.
