The Operating Room (OR) is an exciting, fast-paced, and technical environment where teams of highly skilled health care professionals work together to investigate pathologies, heal people and save lives. Two weeks ago, VCH hosted a Perioperative Open House - an informative session about the dynamic role of a Perioperative Nurse and our Perioperative RN Training Program. Nursing students, registered nurses, and other health care professionals had the opportunity to step inside and tour the ORs at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). They also had the opportunity to chat with members from our Recruitment, Clinical Education, and OR leadership teams.
"Feedback from many people who attended the Perioperative Open House was overwhelmingly positive. They found the event informative and really appreciated the opportunity to tour an operating room. Stay tuned for more Open House events in 2020," says Karen Muller, Recruitment Advisor.
RPEP is an innovative program that utilizes multiple learning modalities such as online learning, interactive classroom sessions, skills labs and simulation combined with instructor lead and preceptorship clinical experiences. The theoretical component is based upon AORN's Periop 101 online modules. There is a strong emphasis on the clinical portion in various specialties within the operating room training sites. Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.
