Emergency Physician and Critical Care Fellow Dr. Adam Thomas, Emergency Nurse Practitioner Monique Mclaughlin, Emergency Patient Services Manager Lori Quinn, Registered Nurses Allan Lai, Lara Gurney, Heather Epp, and Rob Paquin.

Allan Lai and Rob Paquin are headed to Philadelphia to present The Nurse Led Code at ResusX, a medical conference focusing on resuscitation. The Nurse Led Code is an alternative approach to the organization of the team caring for cardiac arrest patients where the nurse is responsible for organizing team members and implementing basic and advanced cardiac life support. This model aims to utilize team members to their full scope of practice with the intention to maximize efficiency for assessments, procedures and consultation of other care providers.

"We believe The Nurse Led Code is a brilliant approach to organizing care for the sickest patients. The advantage of The Nurse Led Code is that it empowers nurses to practice to their full scope and training, while reducing cognitive load for physician colleagues, freeing them up for point of care ultrasound, central venous catheter access, and consulting other services for help," says Allan Lai, Registered Nurse.

With the generosity of the VGH Sim Centre, Allan and Rob teamed up with Lara Gurney, Heather Epp, Lori Quinn, Monique McLaughlin, and  Dr. Adam Thomas to film a Nurse Led Code for conference attendees. The conference will be held in Philadelphia from September 30 - October 2nd and will be available for livestream at ResusX.com
