As a values-based organization, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has once again been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for the second year running. The long-standing accolade recognizes employers with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.
VCH stood out in the competition for making staff and medical staff wellness a priority. "We firmly believe that our employees must take care of themselves so they can take great care of others," says Vivian Eliopoulos, VCH President and CEO.
In times when flexibility and work-life balance are career must-haves, the recognition aligns with VCH's values and efforts to respond to staff and medical staff needs. "At VCH, you can stretch, grow, have excellent working relationships and feel part of a team. It's a very nice feeling," says Gwen Schmidt, Patient Care Coordinator, Bella Coola.
The award announcement and publication highlight VCH's ability to provide exceptional care to urban and non-urban communities in sync with staff and medical staff wellness, fostering a culture of continuous learning, recognition, and promoting working relationships and a spirit of innovation. "We have the courage to innovate, the agility to act and adjust, and the compassion to do so with care and perseverance," says Vivian.
Editors at Mediacorp, organizers of the competition, compared each organization's policies to others in their industry and region, grading the applications in eight key areas: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. The editors publish detailed reasons for selection providing transparency in the selection of winners and a catalogue of best practices for employers and job-seekers.
Thank you to each member of the VCH team for all that you do, every day, to make VCH a great place to work. Learn more about VCH as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers.
