VGH road closure: September 6-8

Construction to expand the Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Surgical Centre at VGH is on schedule and we can look forward to opening our new perioperative suite in January 2021. To support this work, a crane will be installed over the weekend, necessitating partial closure of Laurel Street. Access to areas on the west side of Jim Pattison Pavilion (JPP) will be limited too.

The road closure will be in effect Friday, September 6, at 6 pm to Sunday, September 8, at 2 pm.

Driving to VGH

The Diamond Centre parkade and drop-off/pick-up loop will remain accessible to vehicles from 10th Avenue only.

Walking or cycling to VGH

The west sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians the full length of Laurel Street between 10th and 12th Avenues. For everyone's safety, we ask cyclists to walk their bikes should they choose to use the west sidewalk to travel between 10th and 12th.

Accessing VGH sites

The Laurel Street entrance to Jim Pattison Pavilion will remain accessible. However, staff will be unable to exit JPP South on the ground level at the memorial garden on Laurel Street., and the ground level patio outside Renal services will be out of bounds for everyone's safety.

Access to the Diamond Centre & Robert H. N. Ho Research Centre will be maintained for those with the appropriate security access badge.

Please refer to the map below depicting the Laurel Street closure in effect at 6 pm Friday, September 6. Traffic control flaggers will be onsite to help with directions.

Thank you for your understanding as we build the future of surgery at VGH.

During the road closure, vehicles will be unable to access the Diamond Centre parkade from W. 12th Avenue.
