Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. John Blatherwick recognized for effortsChief Medical Health Officer Dr. John Blatherwick received the George Elliot Award* for lifetime contribution to public health in BC. The nomination noted that Dr. Blatherwick "has been the moving force behind a number of important programs, especially those involving youth, people with disabilities, people living with AIDS, combating drug addictions, and the move to abolish smoking in the workplace. Dr Blatherwick is the local face of public health to the people of Vancouver and BC; he is extremely supportive of colleagues, staff, and students." *George Elliot was the Deputy Minister of Public Health. He built what is now the BC Centre for Disease Control, Provincial Laboratory, Sexually Transmitted Disease clinics and the network of public health units across the province. |
