Barbara developed the Cooking Fun for Families

Barbara Crocker, a community nutritionist with Vancouver Coastal Health, has been awarded the Public Health Association of BC's Sharon Martin Community Development Award.

Barbara has been instrumental in working within the community to develop a variety of health promotion initiatives. Among her many accomplishments, Barbara developed the Cooking Fun for Families that is now a model for nutrition programs throughout the province. She has actively linked research and practice through academic partnerships including working on research into iron deficiency and taking a leadership role in the Partners in Community Health Research program. She is currently using the community development approach to develop a literacy and healthy eating program for early learning settings.

The award is a recognition of her inclusive approach to building capacity within communities and families and to creatively use partnerships to achieve better health in the population served by VCH. The award is named after the late Sharon Martin, a VCH employee who was a well-known leader in the community development field.
