VCH wins six Excellence in BC Healthcare Awards

Six Vancouver Coastal Health programs captured three Gold Apple and three Awards of Merit at the second annual Excellence in BC Healthcare Awards held on June 25, 2008.

Awards were presented to the following VCH programs and VCH employees:

Top Innovator Award

Pender Community Health Centre, led by clinical director, Fiona Duncan, for its Hepatitis C Treatment Program. 

Academic Health Award

The Educator Pathway Project, led by Pat Semeniuk, director learning and career development and Sharon Smith, for the important education and mentorship role it plays in nursing.

Healthcare Hero

Sharon Smith, senior secretary UBC Facilities was named VCH’s Healthcare Hero for her fitness classes at UBC hospital, which she has been holding for the last 21 years.

Award of Merit

The Safety Huddle Initiative led by Jim Pawson, regional project manager becuase it models best practice values.

Award of Merit

The Shornclliff Residential Care Team, led by Mona Groves, manager, Residential Care and Health Care Services, for offering a new philosophy of care resulting in a change from a task-focused to resident-focused care.

Collaborative Solutions Award for Merit

Preventing Infections with Online Education, led by Elizabeth Bryce, regional medical director, Infection Control. The full story of this award ran in the June 23rd issue of VCH news.
