Burns Lake mill fire patient status update

Vancouver Coastal Health can confirm that a total of three patients have been admitted to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) due to injuries related to the Babine Forest Products mill incident near Burns Lake BC. One additional patient has been identified for transfer.

Of the three patients currently receiving care at Vancouver General Hospital:

  • Two patients arrived in critical condition morning of Saturday January 21st and are now relatively stable but still requiring critical care.
  • A third patient arrived afternoon of January 21st and is now stable.


On Sunday January 22nd, a 4th patient has been identified for transfer from the University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George. This patient is requiring critical care. We currently do not have any information on when this fourth patient will arrive.

Due to patient privacy laws, we are unable to speak specifically about the patients involved in this incident.

This is an unfortunate incident, and our sympathies go out to all who have been injured and to the Burns Lake community.
