As part of the initial phases of the provincial COVID-19 Immunization Plan, Vancouver Coastal Health provided advanced access to immunization clinics for thousands of priority frontline and essential workers across the region. This included workers in industries where full use of personal protective equipment and barriers can be challenging, where outbreaks and clusters have occurred, and where workers live or work in congregate settings.
Now that the province has reached Phase 4 of the Immunization Plan, and all adults in British Columbia aged 18 and older can register and book an appointment to receive their first dose of vaccine, VCH is now phasing out the program for priority frontline and essential workers.
In order to book an appointment to receive your first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, you must register and create a profile in the provincial booking system at www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca.
You also need to register to be notified when it’s time to receive your second dose if you got your first dose of vaccine:
As a priority frontline worker before May 3;
Before the provincial booking system launched on April 6;
At a pharmacy; or
At a community outreach clinic in Whistler or Squamish.
Your first dose of vaccine was recorded in the system, and now that record must be attached to your registration profile.
Currently, second doses will be offered eight weeks from the first dose based on provincial and national recommendations. Data from jurisdictions around the world shows one dose of vaccine provides a high level of protection. When it's time to receive the second dose, you will be invited directly to receive it. It is important to retain the paper record of immunization you receive at your first appointments and bring back to the clinic when it is time for your second dose.
If you registered at any point after the COVID-19 Immunization Plan started, or if you registered and booked an appointment on or after May 3 using a code for the priority frontline and essential worker program, you already have a registration profile and no further action is required. You will be notified by text or e-mail when it is time to book your second dose appointment.
If you have difficulties registering or booking, please call the provincial call centre at 1-833-838-2323.
