Patient summary

CareConnect displays summary information taken from the most recently updated encounter for the patient, including:

  • Alerts: displays MRSA, VRE, CPO (antibiotic resistant bacteria), and Candida Auris alerts for the patient from VCHA PCIS, VPP Cerner, PHSA Cerner, NHA-Cerner and VIHA-Cerner

  • Contacts: displays a list of the next of kin, emergency contact or family member of the current patient, whom the patient has indicated can be contacted

  • Family Physicians: displays the patient's care providers

  • Languages: displays the language(s) that is spoken or understood by the patient

Demographic data and patient encounters

CareConnect uses the most current demographic data from the provincial Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) database. CareConnect associates the patient's demographic information with a chronological summary of encounter records from Vancouver Acute, Richmond Hospital Services, Providence Health Care, Coastal, Vancouver Community, Children's and Women's Health Centre of BC, BC Cancer Agency, and Fraser Health Authority, Northern Health Authority, and Island Health Authority. Types of duocuments/reports available include:


CareConnect offers access to lab results from across six health authorities in BC as well as Community Labs (BC Biomedical, LifeLabs, and Valley Medical) and Canadian Blood Services.  Types of labs available include:
  • Chemistry

  • Hematology

  • Blood Bank

  • Microbiology

  • Anatomical Pathology


CareConnect offers access to diagnostic imaging reports from across six health authorities in BC via Provincial Diagnostic Imaging Viewer (PDIV). Types of reports available include:
  • Computed Radiography

  • Digital Radiography

  • Computed Tomography

  • Digital Subtraction (Angiography)

  • Mammography

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging

  • Nuclear Medicine

  • Positron Emission Tomography

  • Radio Fluroscopy

  • Ultrasound

  • X-Ray Angiography

Clinical documents

In the Documents domain, CareConnect offers access to reports and documents from Vancouver Acute, Richmond Hospital Services, Providence Health Care, Coastal, Children's and Women's Health Centre, BC Cancer Agency, Interior Health Authority, Fraser Health Authority, Northern Health Authority and Island Health Authority. Types of documents/reports available include:
  • ED Discharge Summaries

  • Consultations

  • Discharge summaries

  • Operative Reports

  • History & physical reports

  • Transfer Summaries

In the Community Documents domain, CareConnect displays a select set of community information identified to provide the most clinical value from Vancouver Coastal Health Authority's PARIS (Primary Access Regional Information System) and Profile EMR, as well as Fraser Health Authority's PARIS:
  • VCHA PARIS Clinical Summary (incl. active alerts, immunization history, healthcare instructions)

  • VCHA PARIS Care Plan report (incl. client's needs, goals and clinical interventions across a broad range of disciplines)

  • VCHA PARIS Notes and Assessments (e.g. Rehab Group Note, Palliative Assessment)

  • VCHA Profile EMR Summary (incl. problems, previous procedures, chronic medical conditions)

  • FHA PARIS Notes and Assessments (e.g. Home Health Casenote, MHSU Rehab Assessment)

CareConnect displays patient demographic and contact information from the following Patient Care Information Systems (PCIS):
  • VA-RHS PCIS – Vancouver Acute / Richmond Health Services PCIS (GE Carecast)

  • PHC PCIS – Providence Health Care PCIS (Eclipsys SCM)

  • Coastal PCIS - McKesson

  • VCH PARIS – Vancouver Community / Coastal / Richmond and Providence Health Care

  • Cerner – Children's & Women's Health Centre of British Columbia and St. Mary's Hospital

  • CAIS – British Columbia Cancer Agency

  • IHA - Meditech

  • FHA - Meditech

  • NHA - NHA-Cerner

  • VIHA-Cerner

Medications (only for clinics/worksites on Private Physician Network)
