The North Shore Hospice features three reception rooms. The great room for dining and relaxing, featuring a large traditional open fireplace, a TV lounge and a child friendly entertainment lounge complete with Wii, XBOX, Playstation , DVDs, games and books. The hospice also has a unique Sacred Space, a counselling room and a large, multipurpose resource room.
Home-cooked meals are served from our kitchen by the chef. Families and patients may use a small kitchenette for their individual needs.
The North Shore Hospice has a Sonic Spa bath, patient and separate family shower facilities, a hair salon and nail bar. It is set in its own beautiful, landscaped gardens.

The North Shore Hospice is staffed 24 hours a day with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and acute care aides. The hospice also has the benefit of the full North Shore Palliative Care team to help patients and families access resources and meet their psychosocial needs. The Palliative Care team includes a social worker, bereavement coordinator and counsellors, music therapists and volunteers.
The palliative care on-call physicians visit daily throughout the week and are on-call on the weekends.
We work closely with other health professionals such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
All equipment can be arranged as required.
The North Shore Hospice is two blocks East of Lonsdale with grocers, coffee shops and community facilities all located nearby.
In each room there is a wardrobe for patients’ personal clothing, a bedside locker, fully electric bed with ceiling lift, a sleeper couch and access to electric recliner chairs. An entertainment system is provided in each room comprising HD TV, games console, computer, Blue-ray DVD player and a telephone. The Hospice has wireless technology and Skype is available in each room. Patients may choose either traditional bed linens or duvets.
Three full meals are prepared daily, with home-baked pastries, snacks and access to beverages.
Housekeeping and laundry are provided.
There is limited space to store personal belongings but residents are encouraged to bring items they need and to personalize their rooms.
As mandated by the Ministry of Health Services, hospice residents are charged a flat minimum monthly rate. If your stay is less than the full month, the amount that you pay will be prorated. If you or your family are unable to afford this fee, your financial situation can be assessed to see if you qualify for a temporary rate reduction.
Located in a secured building with electronic card entry or intercom. Visitors and guests check-in at the reception.
There are no fixed visiting hours at the hospice. Your family and friends are welcome to be with you as long as you wish.
Parking is available at the hospice.
The facility’s population is multicultural and English is predominantly the spoken language. We can arrange for spiritual support for various denominations, or you may invite your own spiritual advisor to visit you as you wish.
Smoking is permitted in a designated area. Common areas and private rooms are smoke-free.
We cannot accommodate pets to stay; however, pets are welcome to visit (subject to a risk assessment).
