Building amenities

R.W. Large Memorial Hospital has six acute beds, six long-term care beds and a three-bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services and telehealth services. Also within the hospital you'll find a medical clinic and pharmacy.

Accreditation status

Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their residents, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada or by CARF.

Philosophy of care

We take a holistic and individualized approach to resident care, including the promotion of the following residents' rights to: health, safety and dignity; participation and freedom of expression; transparency and accountability.

Type of accommodation

Six residential rooms with private bathrooms including sink and toilet. Common shower and common tub room.


Residents pay 80% of their after tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation. Minimum and maximum rates apply. There may be other costs not included in the resident contribution. Visit our Costs page for more information.


Entry to the building is through the main hospital entrance.

Pet policy

No pets permitted.

Smoking policy

No smoking inside or on grounds as per VCH Smoke-Free Premises Policy.

Safety & security features

24-hour staffing, smoke detectors, sprinklers and fire alarm system.

Care home-specific restrictions

No unauthorized use of alcohol permitted.
