Royal Ascot Care Centre offers an in-house hair dressing salon, outdoor patios on each floor, a television set located on each floor, activity areas on each floor with a large activity area on the main floor. The main floor also offers a quiet library area with comfy chairs, couches, and a fireplace. Visitors are welcome to park in our underground parking lot or in limited spaces located outside the building.
Freedom of spiritual and cultural expression is encouraged and facilitated for the residents at Royal Ascot Care Centre. We offer access to a variety of spiritual services including non-denominational church services weekly and other volunteer-led services from the Vancouver Chinese Evangelical Free Church, the Catholic Church, and one-on-one visits by pastors or ministers of the residents’ faith. Royal Ascot Care Centre is a multicultural environment that embraces our differences through the recognition and celebration of many cultural events and the accommodation of traditional/religious diets and cultural practices. The residents at Royal Ascot Care Centre predominately speak English, Chinese, or Italian in addition to residents who speak other languages.
Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their residents, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada or by CARF.
Royal Ascot Care Centre offers a client-centred model of care to persons who require assistance with their activities of daily living in a long-term care setting. Our client-centred model of care focuses on the experience of the clients from their perspective, while minimizing vulnerabilities and maximizing control and respect. Royal Ascot Care Centre also offers a supportive home-like setting with increased attention paid to the physical environment through personalization of the clients’ surroundings.

Royal Ascot Care Centre is an 82 bed residence that has three resident floors, one of which houses a 28 bed Special Care Unit. Two of the floors have their own dining area. Residents from the 4th floor dine in the main floor dining room. 9 beds are in double rooms and 64 beds are private rooms. Each room has an ensuite bathroom. Century tubs and showers are located on each of the resident floors.
Residents pay 80% of their after tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation. Minimum and maximum rates apply. There may be other costs not included in the resident contribution. Visit our Costs page for more information.
Royal Ascot Care Centre offers many leisure and recreational services. The primary focus of the recreation programmers is the alleviation of isolation and boredom while providing meaningful stimulation and enjoyment. Our in-house activities include Bingo, crafts, exercise programs, and stimulating games. The Ascot Happy Hour Horse Races is a favourite amongst our residents. Parties complete with entertainers are held monthly. We also offer numerous outdoor activities including bus trips, luncheon outings, and sightseeing tours. Our clients’ birthdays are celebrated monthly with live entertainment, snacks, and cake.
Royal Ascot Care Centre is wheelchair accessible with wide hallways and doorways which can accommodate manual or power wheelchairs and a minimum number of scooters.
Motorized scooters may be used if they meet size requirements and pre-approved criteria with regards to safety of the user, other residents and staff.
Royal Ascot Care Centre recognizes the importance that pets can play in increasing the quality of resident life. Therefore, pets are encouraged to visit. To ensure the health, safety and comfort of residents, visitors and staff, sensitivity is required when bringing a pet into Royal Ascot. Pet owners will be responsible for the actions of their pets and will be required to sign a “Pet Agreement”.
Smoking is permitted in the designated areas located on outdoor patios.
Royal Ascot Care Centre has coded entry and elevator systems. There are security cameras located both outside and inside the building with viewing terminals located on each floor. There is a security alarm, sprinkler system, two elevators and smoke detectors located inside each room as well as in common areas. There is an emergency generator in place in the event of power outage. The staff are equipped with a cell phone in case of emergencies. Floors are also equipped with portable walkie talkies.
Royal Ascot Care Centre is located at the corner of Broadway and Nanaimo Streets in Vancouver. It is on a bus route and close to most East Vancouver Amenities.
Residents have access to alcohol within the home subject to obtaining an order for same from the resident’s attending physician. Any liquor brought in from outside must be left with the Nurse and will be provided in accordance with the Physician’s order. Alcohol is not permitted in Resident’s rooms unless agreed to by the Director of Care.
