English is the primary language but staff are multi-cultural and speak a variety of languages. 

Accreditation status

Not accredited by national organiztion. Accreditation is not a requirement of assisted living but some residences have received accreditation status. It is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their residents, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada

Philosophy of care

Assisted living provides accommodation, hospitality and personal care services in a manner that:

  • Promotes and maximizes choice, dignity, and control for Residents
  • Promotes the resident’s right to privacy as well as opportunities for social interaction;
  • Supports residents’ independence through physical design features in the building and the delivery of support services;
  • Provides care and services that are shaped to meet the residents’ needs; and
  • Creates a home-like environment that supports the residents’ preferred lifestyle.

All suites are equipped with a fridge and microwave. Occupants provide furnishings for their own suites. Comfortable furnishings are provided in the dining area and common amenity spaces (lobby, etc).


Individual tenants pay 70% of after tax income subject to a minimum and maximum amount. The resident contribution includes: monthly rental accommodation; hospitality services (meals, housekeeping, etc); and personal care. Couples living together pay up to 70% of combined after tax income. 

Examples of items that are not included as part of the 70% include: telephone, cable, household and toiletry supplies, all medications, personal care supplies and insurance. All suites have free internet access. Private pay suites are also available for individuals who do not qualify for subsidized suites or who need immediate residency.

Food service

Menus are reviewed by a registered dietitian.

Housekeeping & laundry

Included in the monthly rent is weekly laundering of tenants’ bed linens and towels, as well as weekly light housekeeping of suites. Complimentary laundry machines located on each floor are available for tenant use.

Special recreation opportunities

Activities coordinator on staff to provide a daily list of social/recreational activities.

Emergency response (24) capacity

A state-of-the-art emergency response system is answered 24 hours a day by on-site staff. Provided by Care Caller.


Residents must be able to mobilize independently in suite as well as common areas with or without mobility aides. There are two elevators for tenant use.

Motorized scooter policy

Scooter parking is permitted in hallways or in the ground floor hallway, as space allows.

Pet policy

Small pets only; pet deposit in the amount of $500 required.

Smoking policy

Smoking is permitted on suite balconies or off site.

Safety & security features

Smoke detectors are in all rooms and the building is fully equipped with sprinklers. Bathrooms equipped with grab bars and common hallways are equipped with handrails. Access to building via secure door system with key fob.


Residents can freely invite visitors.

Parking (tenant & visitor)

On-site parking is available.

Neighbourhood & community amenities

Centrally located close to parks, grocery stores, physician offices, pharmacy and within steps of the seniors community centre.

Facility-specific restrictions

Not applicable.

Exit criteria

Shannon Falls Retirement Residence is not able to accommodate tenants who cannot make decisions on their own behalf or who require 24-hour professional nursing care.  Subsidized Assisted Living Tenants will be supported to find appropriate alternate arrangements.

Tour information

Tours are available for those that have been pre-approved for assisted living by a case manager.  Tours are available during regular business hours and at other times by appointment.
