BG Homes
It includes a common dining room, private dining room, lounges, multi-purpose room, bistro, hairdresser, library, spa bathing room, scooter storage, and tenant storage.
BG Cedars Society operates in cooperation with BG Homes Society. BG Homes is a partner ministry of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.
Accreditation status
Not accredited but part of an industry self regulation program (BCSLA Seal of Approval). 2010 - September 2015.
Accreditation is not a requirement of assisted living but some residences have received accreditation status. It is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their residents, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada.
Assisted living provides accomodation, hospitality and personal care services in a manner that:
- Promotes and maximizes choice, dignity and control for residents;
- Promotes the resident's right to privacy as well as opportunities for social interaction;
- Supports residents' independence through physical design features in the building and the delivery of support services;
- Provides care and services that are shaped to meet the residents' needs; and
- Creates a home-like environment that suports the residents' preferred lifestyle.
There are 89 1-bedroom assisted living units (550 sq. feet) with full kitchens and washrooms with showers. Generally speaking, the units are large enough to accommodate couples.

All suites are equipped with fridge and stove. Residents provide furnishings for their own suites. Comfortable furnishings are provided in both the dining area and common amenity space.
Resident contribution is an amount up to 70% of after tax income, subject to a minimum and maximum amount. The resident contribution includes: monthly rental accomodation, hospitality services (meals, housekeeping, etc.) and personal care. Couples living together pay up to 70% of after tax income.
Examples of items that are not included as part of the 70% include: telephone, cable, household and toiletry supplies, all medications, personal care supplies and insurance.

Lunch and dinner is served, restaurant style, in the community dining room; a choice of two entrees is offered at each meal.
Weekly basic housekeeping is included in the basic rate. Complementary laundry rooms available.
A variety of activities are planned monthly; entertainment is regularly booked.
Residents are provided with a wireless emergency response system equipped with pendants; staff are available for emergency assistance around the clock
Residents must be able to move around their suite on their own, and make their own way to the dining room, with or without mobility aides. Walkers, canes and manual wheelchairs permissible.
Residents wishing to use electric wheelchairs within the residence must be assessed for safety. Outdoor scooters are not permitted inside the building except for parking.
Pets are no longer
accepted, except for guide animals. A pet policy must be signed by the resident prior to move in.
Smoking is permitted inside a limited number of resident suites. The resident must supply an air purifier that is approved by the Operator. The air purifier must be of appropriate capacity to prevent odors from escaping the suite, as well as odors being minimized within the suite. The resident must agree not to smoke inside the resident's suite within two hours of scheduled assistance by staff. Outdoor designated smoking areas are also available.
The building is fully equipped with sprinklers, including common areas and resident suites.
Smoke detectors are located in all suites and common areas. Main entrance is locked when reception staff is not in attendance. Staff in attendance around the clock.
Residents may receive visitors whenever they wish.
There is limited tenant secure underground parking in the adjacent building. Visitor parking on the street.
Located in the northeast section of Vancouver, Thunderbird Community Center is 2 blocks south on Cassiar Street. An Adult Day Centre and Ambulatory Care Clinic are located on the ground floor of the Cedars building.
Residents must be able to transfer independently, direct their own care, not be a threat to others nor exhibit behavior that is combative.
This assisted living site cannot accommodate residents who are unable to make decisions on their own behalf; if a resident’s care needs change significantly, or those who require 24 hour professional care, residents will be supported to find appropriate alternate arrangements.
Tours are available for those that have been pre-approved by a case manager.
