Your initial visit to the Sleep Disorders Clinic

Your initial clinic visit will be with a sleep physician and will include a comprehensive consultation to gain as much information about your sleep complaints as possible.

  • This consultation will take approximately 1-2 hours.

  • You will be asked to fill out a sleep questionnaire to help our physicians get to know as much information about your sleep as possible. You can fill out or read the questionnaire prior to your appointment.

  • For general sleep disorders, you will receive a sleep diary approximately 1 month before your sleep clinic appointment. The diary is designed to gather information about your daily sleep patterns.

The sleep disorders physician may refer you to have an overnight sleep study or polysomnogram in our sleep laboratory. Depending on the nature of your complaints, you will have to spend one or more nights in the hospital. If you suffer from excessive sleepiness, you may also need to complete a daytime test (Multiple Sleep Latency Test - MSLT) which will take place the day after your last overnight stay in the sleep laboratory.

Please notify us at least 24 hours prior to your appointment if you are unable to attend or if there has been any change in your medical condition. Otherwise you may be subject to a no-show fee.
