The Psychiatric Emergency Program provides the residents of the North Shore and surrounding areas with access to prompt psychiatric assessments through the Emergency Department at Lions Gate Hospital.

How to access

  • Get a referral

    The emergency physician oversees all admissions to the Emergency Department. The on-call psychiatrist is available by pager for consults.

Lions Gate Hospital is located on 231 East 15th Street in North Vancouver.

The program also expedites the care and appropriate triaging of psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department. Additionally, it provides a nursing liaison among the Inpatient Psychiatric Services, the Emergency Department and the appropriate community resources.

The Psychiatric Emergency Program acts as Admission Co-ordinator to Magnolia House as designated and on weekends.

Psychiatric emergency units provide a brief stay for the assessment, stabilization and treatment for people experiencing a psychiatric/mental health crisis.
