Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death and illness in British Columbia. Efforts to reduce and discourage tobacco use contribute significantly in promoting the health of British Columbians and reducing health care cost. We are committed to reducing the burden of tobacco attributed diseases and deaths through our comprehensive tobacco control strategy.
Tobacco reduction: Focus is on preventing tobacco and vapour product use, supporting those who currently use to reduce or quit and protecting non-users from the harms of second-hand vapour and smoke exposure.
Tobacco enforcement: Focus is on working with retail outlets and minors to enforce tobacco and vapour product control bylaws and regulations.
