Now in post-pandemic period

The H1N1 influenza virus is a respiratory disease of humans caused by type A influenza virus.

The World Health Organization declared the H1N1 pandemic over on August 10, 2010.

During the pandemic, the H1N1 virus crowded out other influenza viruses to become the dominant virus. This is no longer the case. Many countries are reporting a mix of influenza viruses, as per normal influenza season.  Although the pandemic may be over, the H1N1 virus will continue to circulate for years to come.

Your best defense this influenza season will be to get your flu shot. This year’s flu shot will give you protection against three strains of influenza viruses, including H1N1.  When can I get vaccinated? Visit the Flu Shots page for more information.
