Supporting smoke-free communities

We are poised to help the province become the healthiest jurisdiction to host the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Our VCH Tobacco Strategy 2006-2010 contributes to this vision by pursuing a set of goals that includes reducing our health region’s smoking prevalence to less than 10%.

Tobacco strategy

A dedicated team of tobacco reduction staff focus our activities in the areas of tobacco cessation (stop smoking), protection and prevention. This includes:

  • Working with partners to cultivate public support for smoke-free policy change
  • Partnering with the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) to support  a smoke-free environment at the 2010 Winter Games
  • Developing and promoting resources to help families support smoke-free living in our communities
  • Maintaining and promoting VCH’s smoke-free premise policy

Smoking cessation

Quitting smoking reduces your own personal harm and protects others around you from tobacco smoke. You may also prevent others from starting smoking because you stop modelling unhealthy behaviours.

Visit our Smoking Cessation page to help you get started when you are ready to kick the habit.
