Promoting a smoke-free, healthy lifestyle

Initiatives aimed at preventing smoking are an important part of our tobacco strategy.

Educating youth about the short and long-term risks of smoking and dubious tobacco marketing helps prevent smoking.

Community-wide tobacco-free programs, effective bylaw enforcement and resources for parents and educators add to positive tobacco-free outcomes.

Vancouver Coastal Health tobacco prevention includes:

  • Sharing prevention messages with significant populations (e.g., youth)
  • An evidence-informed tobacco-free sports plan that works through coaches, recreational organizations, mentors and officials to promote healthy lifestyles
  • Promoting provincial educational resources and programs for youth and adults
  • Investing in peer-led initiatives and community healthy living programs
