Inspecting the water where we swim, play or boat

Our pools, lakes and marine beaches - the water where we swim, play or boat - can be a source of disease or injury.

Our environmental health officers monitor recreational beaches weekly during the swimming season. They also inspect and approve commercial pools and hot tubs regularly throughout the year.

Water quality reports

If water exceeds the safety limit of 200 coliforms per 100 mililitres of water, our medical health officer will post warning signs that the water does not meet health standards for swimming or wading. This is because there is a higher risk of acquiring an infection above this level of contamination.

Coliform counts for the Vancouver-area beaches are updated weekly, based on sampling results provided by the Greater Vancouver Regional District Water Quality Laboratory.
